Celery Juice. Healthy or Hogwash?


I’m sure you’ve seen it plastered all over the internet lately.  Celery juice is apparently changing people’s lives.  Are you buying into it or are you skeptical?  Before we added celery juice to the Jusu Bar menu we did our homework and realized it’s the bomb.com!    As it turns out, the humble celery stock packs a powerful nutritional punch, but that’s not all. 

 Celery is high in several important vitamins and minerals, so celery juice acts like a liquid vitamin supplement.  It helps keep electrolytes in balance to provide you with vital energy and mental clarity.  It’s high in antioxidants, hydrating and it’s a natural anti-inflammatory.  It’s great for digestion and bloating and it has SO many more healing benefits. 

Celery juice is certainly not a replacement for a healthy diet.  Our recommendation is to ADD celery juice to your existing healthy diet and see what happens.


Guidelines for Celery Juice:

  • Always choose organic celery when possible.  Juicing non-organic produce is like drinking concentrated chemicals.

  • Juice right before consumption if you are using a regular juicer, or within 3-days if you are drinking cold-pressed celery juice.

  • The ideal time to drink celery juice is first thing in the morning and before you have anything (yes...that includes coffee). 

  • Always drink celery juice on an empty stomach.

  • Drink pure, naked celery juice without anything else added.

  • Drink celery juice slowly and allow it to linger in your mouth for a few seconds.

  • Try to have a minimum of 414- 473mls / 14 - 16 ounces every morning.  You can add another one in the afternoon on an empty stomach if you like. 

Don’t have a juicer? 

Of course, picking up a Celery Juice at your local Jusu Bar is the easiest, fastest and most convenient way to drink it, but you can also make celery juice in your blender.  Take a bunch of celery, wash it thoroughly and simply blend it until it is as close to liquid/slush as you can get it (you may have to add a bit of water depending on how powerful your blender is).  Once it’s blended fully, pour it into a fine-thread cheesecloth, over top of a bowl.  Let the liquid pour out first, then squeeze the excess juice out by wringing the cheesecloth allowing no pulp to get into the juice.  Voila, Celery Juice!


The Celery Juice Challenge: 

Still not sure if you buy into this ‘trend’? That’s an easy fix.  Don’t take our word for it, simply try it for 10 days, EVERY day. If you notice a positive difference try it for 30 days and then decide it you think it’s healthy or hogwash.
